Embroidery Designs Patterns on Fabric

Hand worked textiles are inevitably popular in a country where labour is still relatively cheap. Crewel and crochet work is done all over India to produce lacy table linen and bedspreads. Exquisite embroidery in triumphant colours is the hallmark of village artisans who produce some of the most beautifully decorated cloths in the world. Gujarat is especially famous for its hand-worked fabrics. Soof embroidery with its long, flat stitch is much prized as is the patchwork seen in quilts, cushion covers and wall hangings. Embroidery here is not only done with thread, but cascades of sequins, twine, wire and cowrie shells are also incorporated into the work.
